semi-structured interviews

March 23, 2010

When I visited Kongsberg for my initial registrations, I was looking to get a picture of the local socio-cultural landscape, in order to understand the underlying intention and roles of the municipality and local industry. I interviewed 10 local key citizen within private and public sector, of which all of them answered these five questions (click to check the answers):

1.  what makes Kongsberg a GOOD PLACE to be?

2. what is currently HAPPENING here?

3. what is THE GREATEST RESOURCE of this place?

…and the biggest DRAWBACK?

4. what VISIONS do you have for Konsberg?

5. how does Kbg. look in 2030?

The 4th or 5th question should have been replaced by a better one (eg. what is your favourite place in Kongsberg?) but must will come in the next turn. For now, I´ve learned a lot about what goes on in Kongsberg and whose motivations and interests lie behind the existing plans.

From the answers given I have deducted 7 or 8 tensions that accomodate plentiful of development issues to work with (to be presented in another post). I may have to isolate one or a few of these for my diploma, but first I intend to translate all tensions found into maps and categorize issues according to Chris Butters´ sustainability value map.

What I always wanted to ask: why cumulus creations?

HAHA, no I accidentally publiched the draft instead of saving it last night… It is registrations still and have yet to be translated into `proper´ work – bear with me ;)

the video: WOW! that is SO cool. Actually, I´ve been wanting to try working with fluids and their different properties on the diploma, but not sure if I can top this… We´ll have to discuss this further, chief

    cumulus creations?

yes, you might say it´s all air – but the cumulus cloud also works a distinct symbol of a transformational process.
At first you can´t see it, next thing it is forming into a cloudscape, before it eventually releases a refreshing shower.

How the cumulus cloud evolves is hard to predict, but it´s mission & role is always the same: to carefully balance & contribute in regulating the delicate climatical system of our planet. fascinating, yes?
